Yes This Is A Post About Porn

Some thoughts on Stoya claiming she was raped by James Deen:

Fully consenting to engage in porn that simulates a stereotypical male rape fantasy is still ultra-problematic and squicky, despite the consent.

Making a career out of porn that simulates stereotypical male rape fantasies is arguably even more problematic.

IMO, “consent” gets thrown out as a sort of get-out-of-jail-free card way too often.

Consent is really, really important in any discussion of porn or BDSM or sex in general.

But consent itself can still be problematic.

Consent is never neutral or politics-free, because it operates within an existing structure of rape culture (politics) and a porn industry that’s still dominated by men (money).

Your consent is another person’s excuse to some day commit rape, or at the very least treat women like shit.

When you’re putting a certain kind of porn out there, your consent no longer gives you cover from what, say, a teenage boy does or learns from it as he grows up.

Enjoy your kink, but as soon as you start selling your kink you are partly responsible with what others take from it.

Add in the internet and yes, in fact, you are partly responsible for something you literally have no control over.

I guess that’s what I’m trying to say.

And IMO, James Deen raped Stoya and I’m happy to see what looks like the beginning of an industry-wide blacklist.
