Dirty Rats

I had an adult student tell me she was caught by “paparazzi” last week.  Upon further inspection, it seems that some Koreans will take pictures of other Koreans when they make a turn without signaling or park illegally.  The cops will then pay them a tip and send the offender a fat ticket.

So we spent the next 15 minutes discussing the term “rat” as a noun and a verb, e.g., “to rat somebody out.”

Good times.  And I thought US traffic cameras were bad enough.  (Korea has those too.)
