I’m a nerd with your standard nerd tastes, but I can’t be bothered to see the new Avengers film. I’ll probably get around to it, eventually, but I have this sinking feeling that the high watermark for comic book adaptations peaked with Guardians of the Galaxy (a truly fun flick) and from now on it’s all downhill. Thanos and Civil War are both consciously dark plots. (Spoiler alert: Captain America’s gonna die bruh). They won’t allow much room for the light-hearted moments between Tony Stark and Thor and Black Widow that made the first Avengers pretty cool.
I mean, the whole point of the Civil War story is that they hate each others guts and are trying to kill each other.
Oh, just because five dozen or so children get accidentally blown the fuck up.
Mmm, more popcorn please!
And the upcoming Batman vs. Superman one? Yawn. I haven’t enjoyed a DC comic movie since the Tim Burton Batmans. (Which were fun! Remember when Batman was allowed to be fun?)
What people saw in the Christopher Nolan Batmans I’ll never understand. I fell asleep during two of them and laughed my way through the third one. Bane was comic relief as far as I was concerned.
And there hasn’t been a good — let alone watchable — Superman film since 1980.
