Finishing Gary Shteyngart’s Super Sad True Love Story. It’s a frustrating book for me. His picture of “post-literate” America is amazingly accurate and darkly funny. (I’m a big fan of darkly funny.) But the actual romance, which is obviously central to the book, is pretty hard to take.
I’d still recommend it though. And lots of parallels to Jennifer Egan’s A Visit From The Goon Squad — America (New York in both cases, actually) falling apart at the seems politically and economically, people emotionally stunted by a reliance on technology. Good times.
I’ve been really interested in dystopian fiction lately. Shit’s fucked up and bulshit all around.
